BIO

Watercolor artist, Mary Jobs, lives just outside of Wausau, Wisconsin on the banks of the Trappe River with her husband, Art, and two cats. Mary quit her office job in 1985 to paint full-time when M & I Bank in Wausau commissioned her to paint five large landscapes of the Wausau area. She is a self-taught artist who has been painting in watercolor for 25 years. She has sold here paintings at juried art fairs in Wisconsin and Illinois, and currently participates in national and regional juried art competitions. In March of this year, her work was featured on the cover of Art Calendar Magazine.

Artist Statement:

"I like using watercolor because I can get very fine detail, bright colors, and lots of contrast. Clean-up is easy and there are no toxic fumes. I begin a painting by taking slides of a subject that interests me, drawing it on paper, and then painting that image while looking into a hand-held slide veiwer. I paint in my studio and work on one painting at a time till it's complete. My favorite music to paint by is Indian flute and harp music. I can't imagine my life without this creative process."
